Rory Mcilroy leads British Open with record 1st. round

No one took greater advantage of the benign course than 21-year-old Irishman Rory McIlroy who set the lowest first round score in the history of the Championship with a nine-under-par 63.

It was a tale of two halves over the St. Andrews Old Course on the first day of the 150th Anniversary Open Championship. The morning starters were blessed with flat, calm conditions, while those who played in the afternoon had to contend with rising wind and blasts of heavy rain.

Robert Garrigus suffers 18th hole collapse

Robert Garrigus with a three shot lead on the final round of the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, drove his tee shot into the water on the 18th and final hole, a par 4. From the penalty drop he proceeded to knock it into the trees, now lying three. He then punched it back out to the fairway, lying four. His approach shot left him with a long putt of which he two putted for a triple bogey seven.

Ouch…Robert went from 1st to third, which cost him approximately $500,000 and denied him his first win on the PGA.

Lee Westwood was getting ready to leave the course when he was notified that he should stay around. Lee finds himself in a playoff with Robert Garrigus, and Robert Karlsson.
